mastercut19.jpg (30053 bytes)The Mastercut 2000/2100 industrial flatbed cutter can be modified to include a rapid, automatic bulk material feeding system that can greatly increase production. The machine shown on the right has two sections of vacuum table, one to the left and one to the right. The machine achieves high production rates as one half of the table is being laid up with a new sheet of material, as the other half of the table is cutting. With two cutting areas in operation simultaneously the machine is cutting almost continuously.
material_roll11.jpg (27163 bytes)n the picture on the right you can see the large bulk roll of Kevlar that is being loaded to feed stock to the automatic feeding apparatus. The smaller rollers feed a thin layer of plastic as a disposable vacuum seal.
grabbers4.jpg (21772 bytes)The bulk feeding apparatus shown here consists of a number of compressed-air controlled "hands" that extend forward at the end of a run, grip the edge of the roll of stock and then pull the new sheet of material to the end of the table.
grabbers6.jpg (18387 bytes)To speed production at this particular airbag fabrication facility, the automatic feeding apparatus has been programmed to pull several layers of material, and stack them one after the other, so that they can be cut in one pass of the cutting machine. After the sheet has been pulled to its fullest extent, an automatic knife cuts it to the correct length. This material handling process was developed especially for this width and type of material.
