Ink-Jet print head for component labeling
Image

An industrial grade ink-jet print head with a large remote ink reservoir has been developed for high production labelling applications.

INK JET PRINTING TOOL HEAD - Designed for extended cutting and labeling application. The industrial grade ink jet plotting and printing system is designed for long production runs with features such as no-clog extended run print heads, and remote high-capacity ink reservoirs. The Mastercut and Genesis 2100 industrial flatbed cutting machine platforms are extremely adaptable and can be configured to carry a wide variety of cutting tools. The picture on the left shows an ink jet printing tool head that has been mounted on a Genesis platform. Please note that these images are taken from a production machine, not a test unit. The ink jet unit is enclosed in the long thin square shrouded aluminum housing that can be seen to the right of the orange cutting head. The large capacity ink reservoir is housed in the silver control console to the right of the cutting/printing head. The black hose line that runs from the ink jet print head towards the rear of the machine, supplies the print head with ink. This remote reservoir system means that the print unit can run for extended periods, and the ink reservoir can be replenished without any downtime. This particular unit is a multi tool head that also includes a fixed blade cutter and a pizza wheel (rotating blade). The multi tool head is designed to cut a variety of sheet materials, both smooth and coarsely woven, and the ink jet print head is set up to print a component or part number onto the cut component as soon as the cutting operation is completed. In the photograph on the right, the blade units can be seen to the left of the silver aluminum ink jet shroud. The blades are tangential and retractable. Movement can be controlled in all three axes, x and y across the cutting table, and in orientation (rotation) of the blade with respect to the cutting direction. In this image the ink jet print head is actually caught in the middle of printing the second line of a component identification number. In this photograph, the details of the printing can be seen. In this particular application the printing cycle is programmed to occur at the end of the cutting cycle. The sheet media that has been cut can be seen to be scored, and is ready for extraction from the cutting table and waste removal. The ink jet printing heads produce a high resolution print that can quite simply show the SKU or component serial number, as in this example. But the possibilities are limitless, the print output is easily programmable and can be more complex with instructions or safety warnings, manufacturer logos etc. If all your questions about Blackman and White and the Mastercut and Gensis range of cutting machines and specialized tool heads are not answered in our web page, then please Contact Us.
