Drill Spindle tool head
Drill spindles, drilling tools designed for continuous or extended production runs. For heavy duty, high speed drilling applications, the drill spindle tool head can be use in conjunction with a Mastercut 2000/2100 flatbed cutting platform. bw_drill_med1_shadow.jpg (35549 bytes)The Mastercut 2000 industrial flatbed cutter is extremely adaptable. The machine shown on the right is actually used in manufacturing production at the Blackman and White plant. It is used to drill the small holes in the aluminum surface of the vacuum tables through which the air is drawn to hold the material being cut to the surface of the table. Literally thousands of holes have to be drilled, and this machine runs continuously and unattended. The drilling program stops when the surface has been completely drilled, a new sheet of aluminum is placed on the cutting table, and the process is started again. The drill head is controlled by air actuated servos that lift the drill chuck at the end of a run that drills a single hole. The depth is controlled very accurately so the surface of the underlying cutting table is not marred. The precise control of the Mastercut 2000 means that the holes are placed with a precision of better than 0.15 mm across the entire surface of the vacuum table. The machine is shown mounted on the main cutting beam of a Mastercut 2000 with none of the covers or guards in place so that the details of the tool head can be seen. bw_drill_sm1_shadow.jpg (30838 bytes)The surface of the vacuum bed is drilled with holes half inch (1.27 cm) apart. In a vacuum table of 5 ft by 20 ft (1.5 X 6 m) the Mastercut 2000 machine shown here at the Blackman and White factory has to operate continuously and reliably around the clock and drill some 46,000 holes.
