Laser heads, ranging from 60 to 400 watts
The Mastercut 2000/2100 equipped with a laser cutting head of up to 400
watts is the most powerful flatbed cutting machine that Blackman and
White manufactures.
The Mastercut 2000 industrial flatbed cutter is capable of being fitted
with a sealed CO2 laser of between 50 and 400 Watts. The cutting is
performed by the intense heat of the laser beam that vaporizes the
material in its path. The hot gases produced as a normal part of the
cutting action are vented safely away by a vacuum system that is
attached to the main cutting beam of the machine, directly above the
laser cutting head.
The laser head is especially suitable for cutting highly intricate and
precise shapes in materials such as cloth, where sealed edges are
required. It is also ideal for plastic films, veneers, plywood and MDF,
and for materials that can be resistant or damaging to standard blades,
such as kevlar. Laser cutting heads have been specified in machines that
are routinely used to cut synthetic laminates that contain interleaved
layers of, for example, silver foil insulation material and carbon
fiber. The heat of the laser tends to fuse the multiple layers of the
laminates, and obviate the need to stitch or otherwise seal the edges of
the panels in an additional production step.
Multi-layers2.jpg (24018 bytes)A CO2 laser is capable of cutting,
multiple layers at once, yielding high production levels and short setup
times between cutting runs. The picture on the left shows an operator
separating seven layers of Nylon 66 that have been cut in one pass for
automobile airbags. Cutting so many layers in a single pass means that
very high production rates can be achieved on a single machine. An
example of a Production Run for this Mastercut 2000 unit is shown in the
Photo Gallery page.
