Reciprocating blade, supported only by the Mastercut platform

Reciprocating blade heads are generally only used for specialist applications where the materials cannot be cut with a fixed blade tool head.

Polystyrene3.jpg (25593 bytes)The Mastercut 2000/2100 and the Genesis platforms can be configured to carry a reciprocating blade with a speed of 2000 cutting strokes per minute and a maximum cutting depth of 50 mm (2 inches). This blade is designed to cut softer materials that tend to deform or clog a standard blade. The Orion cannot carry this tool head because of the powerful torsional forces and vibration that require the heavy duty cutting beam and robust subframe of the Mastercut and Genesis platforms.

The polystyrene cut edge is absolutely smooth with no tearing of the granules. In the past this task was been carried out by hand using electrically heated hot-knives or hot-wire tools. An example of a production task that uses this type of tool is the manufacture of trailers, caravans and other types of recreational vehicle.

The metal sheets are pre-cut to mate perfectly with the polystyrene insulation and the panels can be assembled in one piece, saving on manufacturing time and speeding production and assembly. Additionally, a nesting software program that uses common cutting lines also also been applied to this production process and has led to great savings in materials through reduced wastage.
